Motive for becoming involved in the conspiracy: A burning desire to keep a struggling newspaper in print coupled with the understanding that to speak out truthfully against local corruption would subject said newspaper to the same treatment as the radio station. Speaking out truthfully would also guarantee the retraction of an offer of a substantial loan guaranteed by Shamrock Economic Development Corporation. Speaking out truthfully would also guarantee the cancellation of tens of thousand of dollars in advertising purchased by SEDC member owned businesses. Advertising purchased from grants obtained by David Rushing who then "vote" to give the grant moneys to themselves while agreeing to spend the grant money exclusively on advertising with the "County Star-News".
